Rampaging armed herdsmen terrorising Nigeria’s middle belt State of Benue have struck again.
At least six people were killed when the herders attack Tse Ugema Chul at Mbakesa community in Ukum Local Government Area, LGA.
The attack, which was carried out on Sunday, has forced many dwellers of the troubled countryside to flee the area.
Seven dead bodies had been recovered while many others were still missing, according to DAILY POST.
A source familiar with the matter said trouble began after some youths in the area mobilised themselves to chase away cattle that strayed into their farmlands and destroyed their yams.
The source said, “While the youths were going after the cattle, unknown gunmen who laid ambush opened fire and killed some of the youths. Six bodies have been recovered.
“After killing the youths, they retreated and started looting the people’s farm produce and destroying their property.
“One of those killed in the attack was one Michael Adeke, who had three days ago posted on his Facebook page about the recurrent attacks in the area by suspected armed herdsmen and the need for the people to defend themselves.”
The incident was confirmed by the Chairman of Ukum LGA, Mr. Jonathan Modi who spoke from the scene of the attack .
“I am in Zaki Biam right now and in pains about what happened and I cannot speak now.”
The Spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command,CSP, Catherine Anene is yet to issue a statement on the incident.
