  • The attackers fled when the teenager’s loud cries interrupted their attempt to harvest more organs during the assault.
  • Police said the wounded boy first received local treatment before being transferred to University College Hospital for further medical care.

Eight persons have been taken into custody by the Osun State Police Command over the mutilation of a 16-year-old boy’s scrotum in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area.

The command’s public relations officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said in a Monday statement that the arrests stemmed from a July 26 attack inside a bush.

He narrated that three men from Apomu had gone to farm in the Arademi community, but two allegedly lured the boy away from the farmland.

According to Ojelabi, the attackers cut open the teenager’s abdomen, intending to remove internal organs, but only took his scrotum before escaping when the victim screamed for help.

“The police, when contacted, immediately moved to the scene, took the victim to hospital for medical attention and later referred him to the University College Hospital,” he said.

The police spokesperson noted that subsequent investigations led operatives to apprehend eight individuals suspected of involvement in the attack.

Ojelabi also disclosed that, on July 30, officers arrested two suspected cultists believed to be active around Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, near the school’s entrance.

He said other July arrests included a man who allegedly robbed someone of an iPhone 11 in Osogbo and another caught with a cut-to-size gun during a motorcycle stop in Ede.

According to him, police also picked up a suspect accused of stealing a motorcycle from a mosque, stressing that all those detained would be prosecuted once investigations conclude.
