The African Democratic Congress(ADC) House of Assembly candidates in the 2019 general elections have called on Gov. Seyi Makinde to honour the coalition agreements reached with their leader, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin.

The candidates who were led by Hon. Gaphar Ojetola (Ibadan North 1 constituency); Hon. Tolani Adigun-Tajudeen (Ibadan Southwest constituency 1); Abeeb Balogun (Ibadan Southwest constituency 2); Paul Alagbe (Ogbomoso North constituency 1) and Akindipe Hammed (Ibadan Northwest) respectively tasked the governor to honour his words and fulfill coalition agreement.

They made the call during a news conference held on Tuesday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that four political parties, namely ADC, PDP, ZLP and SDP had on March 2, 2019, formed an alliance to support Makinde of PDP with spelt out sharing formula of political appointments across board.

NAN reports that the sharing formula stated that the PDP takes 64 percent of political appointments, ADC gets 30 percent, ZLP takes five percent and SDP takes a percentage.

The group which reaffirmed their loyalty to the leadership of Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, the ADC governorship candidate, called on the governor to redeem his promises according to the terms of agreement.

“We regret to announce that almost nine months into this government till date, Gov. Seyi Makinde has not fulfilled any of the agreement reached between our principal, Sen. Olufemi Lanlehin and himself,” it said.

It called on the governor to as a matter of importance and urgency redeem his promises according to the terms of agreement with Sen. Olufemi Lanlehin.

The group said that they were direct casualties and sacrificial lambs of the alliance as all their 32 House of Assembly seats went along the coalition.

“The body language of the governor is that of abandonment to fulfilling his own part of the agreement despite that we have staked everything possible to his electoral victory at the polls.

“That victory was our joint efforts and the terms of the promises should be fulfilled without further delay.

“We have sacrificed so much than to be abandoned, used and dumped, ignored or treated in this manner. We should be setting good precedence, as we did in the last election,” the group said.

It noted that they did not request and were not given any financial compensation before consenting to the terms of the alliance, adding they were repeatedly assured of consideration for political appointments.

According to the group, “these assurances were also re-emphasized with us by the governor during his thank-you visit to Sen. Lanlehin residence.”
