A 17-year-old girl has been gang-raped by three armed boys, suspected to be street urchins, in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

It was gathered that the teenager was hawking sachet waters and soft drinks around 7pm on Monday when she was attacked at the popular Oja’ba market in Ado-Ekiti metropolis.

It was learnt that the victim, who was with the three boys who were armed with broken bottles for about 45 minutes, was raped under compulsion.

She was later taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical treatment after which the incident was reported to the Ekiti Police Command and Office of the Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Mrs Erelu Fayemi.

A reliable source disclosed that the medical bill of the victim was offset by Mrs Fayemi.

The Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu while confirming the incident said two suspects have been arrested in connection with the gang-rape.

Abutu noted that the Command has commenced investigation into the matter, assuring that the case would be thoroughly prosecuted and ensure justice prevail.

He decried the increasing incidences of sexual against women, adding that the Command was ready to go against all odds to prevent the state from being tagged a thriving land for violence against girl-child.
