Ezra Olubi, co-founder and chief technology officer, has been suspended by Paystack, a Nigerian payment startup, due to claims of sexual misconduct in the workplace.
According to a report by TechCabal, the fintech company has launched a formal investigation into the matter, after the allegation trended on social media on November 12.
A check revealed that Olubi’s X account has been deleted, but social media trends showed that his tweets were posted before he co-founded Paystack.
Olubi’s tweets between 2009 and 2013 showed sexually explicit jokes about colleagues and mentions of experiencing erections during meetings.
These tweets also showed comments about wanting to photograph a coworker’s thighs and remarks that referenced minors, bestiality, and sexualized anime characters.
Reacting to the development, the firm told TechCabal that Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our co-founder, Ezra Olubi.
“We take matters of this nature extremely seriously. Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities pending the outcome of a formal investigation.
“Out of respect for the individuals involved and to protect the integrity of the process, we will not be commenting further until the investigation is complete.”
Paystack said it has established a “fair, transparent, and structured” review process to conduct a thorough investigation that aligns with its internal policies.
“This process is guided by our policies, our values, and our commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all employees,” the firm added.
At the time of this report, Olubi is yet to speak publicly on the resurfaced tweets or the sexual misconduct allegations.
