On this date, 17th of March in 2010, herdsmen disguised as soldiers butchered and then burned around a dozen Christians in Nigeria, close to the site of a recent sectarian massacre.
Most of the victims of the raid on a village in the Riyom region of Plateau state were women and children, state radio reported, as locals accused the security forces of failing to act quickly enough to prevent the slaughter.
According to a reporter at the scene of the carnage in Byei village, he had counted 12 bodies which bore deep machete cuts and had been partially burned. The state information commissioner put the overall toll at 13.
“I can confirm that 13 people have died while six others have been critically injured,” Information Commissioner Gregory Yenlong told AFP.
Bandits kidnapped forty-eight in Kachia, Kaduna
On this date, 17th of March in 2022, atleast 48 persons were kidnapped in Agunu Dutse, Agunu ward of Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna state.
Kachia local government is in the southern part of Kaduna State.
A traditional title holder from the community, Maurice Tanko confirmed this to journalists.
He said the kidnappers stormed the area around 12:30am on Thursday.
According to him: “It was around 12:30am that our volunteer vigilante notice some unusual movement in an outskirts of the community like 200mitre away and they flashed torches but the no response.
