The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service has thrown its doors open for a fresh round of hiring, and thousands of job seekers across the country are already scrambling to get their documents in order. The federal agency, which sits under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and is charged with keeping pests, diseases and contaminated produce out of Nigeria’s food chain, confirmed the exercise through the Federal Character Commission on Wednesday.

If you’ve been waiting for a genuine, no-fee opening into a federal agency, this is one worth paying attention to. Here’s everything you need to know about the NAQS 2026 recruitment application, from eligibility to the closing date.

When Does the NAQS 2026 Recruitment Application Open and Close?

The portal went live on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. Most reports, including the Federal Character Commission’s own announcement, point to Monday, August 10, 2026 as the closing date, with shortlisting expected on August 13 and computer-based tests and interviews to follow around August 15. A few other outlets covering the exercise have listed August 15 as the final closing date instead, so applicants should treat August 10 as the safer deadline to work toward and check the official portal regularly for any update.

Either way, the message from NAQS is consistent: don’t wait until the last week. Portals like this tend to slow down or crash under heavy traffic in the final 48 hours, and a slow connection is not an excuse the agency will accept.

Where to Apply

All applications go through one place: recruitment.naqs.gov.ng. NAQS has been blunt about this — there is no other website, no agent, no “special link” that gets you in faster. Applicants have already been warned that anyone claiming to help “fast-track” an application in exchange for payment is running a scam.

How to Apply for the NAQS 2026 Recruitment

The process itself is fairly straightforward:

  1. Go to recruitment.naqs.gov.ng and create an account (or log in if you already have one).
  2. Select the cadre and specific position you’re applying for.
  3. Fill out the form with your personal and educational details, and get this right the first time, because inconsistencies between your form and your credentials can get you disqualified later.
  4. Upload your credentials and any supporting documents the portal asks for.
  5. Go through everything one more time before you hit submit. Once it’s in, it’s in.

Make sure the phone number and email address you register with are ones you actually check. NAQS has said shortlisting notices and CBT invitations will go out through those same contact details, so a dead email account could cost you the opportunity entirely.

Available Positions and Cadres

NAQS is recruiting across three broad cadres, and the qualifications required shift quite a bit depending on which one you’re eyeing.

Superintendent Cadre

  • Chief Superintendent of Quarantine (CSQ) — this one is for veterinary doctors. You’ll need a first degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from a recognised institution, plus your NYSC discharge or exemption certificate.
  • Deputy Superintendent of Quarantine (DSQ) — open to law graduates, or candidates with a Master’s degree in another relevant field, again with NYSC completed.
  • Assistant Superintendent of Quarantine II — a first degree from a recognised institution is the baseline here.

Inspectorate Cadre Covers Inspector of Quarantine grades I through III. These roles are generally open to candidates with an OND or NCE, making them more accessible to applicants who didn’t go the university route.

Assistant Cadre Entry-level roles pitched at candidates with SSCE, NECO or GCE qualifications.

Because the entry requirements range all the way from secondary school certificates to postgraduate degrees, there’s genuinely something here for a wide spread of job seekers, not just university graduates.

Eligibility Requirements

Beyond the academic qualifications tied to each specific role, NAQS has laid out general conditions every applicant must meet:

  • Must be Nigerian by birth
  • Must have a National Identity Number (NIN)
  • Must be medically fit, and prepared to present a certificate of fitness from a government hospital
  • Must be willing to undergo a drug test
  • Must be of good character, with no criminal conviction and no ties to secret societies or cult groups
  • Must be free from financial embarrassment (in other words, no outstanding issues like unresolved debt judgments that could compromise your role)
  • Must meet the height requirement, not less than 1.65m for men and 1.55m for women
  • Men also need a minimum chest measurement of 0.87m
  • Must be computer literate

That last group of physical requirements catches some applicants off guard, but it makes sense once you consider that quarantine officers often work in the field, at ports, borders and agricultural checkpoints, not behind a desk. Candidates should also expect a physical assessment as part of the screening process, alongside the medical and drug tests.

One more thing worth flagging: any certificate or qualification you don’t declare at the point of application won’t be accepted later. If you have a credential that might strengthen your case, list it now rather than hoping to bring it up during screening.

What Happens After You Submit?

Shortlisted candidates move on to a Computer-Based Test, with screening and interviews to follow. NAQS hasn’t published exact CBT dates yet beyond the mid-August window already mentioned, so applicants should keep an eye on the portal rather than relying on rumours doing the rounds on WhatsApp and Telegram.

A Word on Scams

This bears repeating because it comes up every recruitment cycle: NAQS has stated clearly that the application is completely free. No fees for registration, no fees for “processing,” no fees to guarantee a slot. If anyone reaches out asking for money in connection with this recruitment, whether they claim to be an official, an agent, or someone with “connections” inside the agency, that’s your cue to walk away and report them.
