A crowd of residents on the Ojukwu University Road attacked men of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, while attempting to rescue accident victims in Anambra.

Three persons reportedly lost their lives and seven others injured in two separate road accidents that occurred on Monday.

It was gathered that one person was confirmed dead in a crash involving five vehicles on the Oyeagu-Agbagana Junction by Agbagana-Awka Road.

The second accident, which claimed two lives, occurred along the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Road, Igbariam.

According to PUNCH, an eyewitness, who asked not to be identified, said the crash at the Oyeagu-Agbagana Junction occurred when a trailer had a brake failure and rammed into four other vehicles.

About 12 persons, comprising five male adults and seven female adults, were involved in the crash, which claimed one life.

A crowd of residents on the Ojukwu University Road were said to have attacked men of the Federal Road Safety Corps who came for a rescue operation.

The officials were said to have fled the scene without ascertaining the number of injured victims.

The FRSC acting Sector Public Education Officer, Margaret Onabe, said, “Up until now, we can’t explain why they threw stones at us. An accident happens and we come for a rescue operation and you are throwing stones. It may be frustration, which can cause misplaced aggression.”

It was further learnt that one person died on the spot, while the second victim was confirmed dead in a hospital.

As of the time of filing this report, seven injured victims had been taken to the Urban Hospital, Agbagana, while one corpse was deposited in the hospital’s morgue.

The Sector Commander, FRSC, Anambra State, Dr Adeoye Irelewuyi, urged drivers to always check their vehicles and put them in good condition.
