Arsenal legend, Kanu Nwankwo, has been appointed by the Confederation of African Football, CAF, to be part of the special envoy for the upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Egypt on Friday.

The 42-year-old was shortlisted along with six other African legends for the special roles, according to Sporting Life.

The other six African legends that made the list are: Mahmoud El Khateeb (Egypt), Samuel Eto’o (Cameroon), Yaya Toure, Didier Drogba (Both Cote d’Ivoire), Rabeh Madjer (Algeria), and El Hadji Diouf (Senegal).

Kanu won the CAF African Footballer of the Year in 1996 and 1999 respectively.

The former Super Eagles captain featured in six AFCON editions for Nigeria from 2000 to 2010.

AFCON will begin on 21 June with the final scheduled for 19 July.
