The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bala Lukshi has been declared winner of the Dass constituency bye-election for the state house of assembly in Bauchi.

The electoral results were announced on Sunday by the returning officer, Ahmed Mohammed.

The returning officer said Lukshi polled 12,299 to defeat Lawal Wundi, candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who secured 11,062 votes.

According to report, the total number of votes cast were 24,376 and the total number of valid votes were 24,020, adding that 356 were the votes rejected.

The returning officer said the total number of registered voters across the 10 electoral wards in the area were 58,112, while the electoral officers accredited 24,546 for the polls.

Muhammed commended the security agencies and all stakeholders who participated before, during and after the elections for their “maturity and understanding”.

Besides the APC and the PDP, the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) participated in the polls.

There was cause for a bye-election to be held in Dass constituency following the death of Musa Baraza, former legislator who occupied the seat at the state house of assembly.
