The development, which many tagged as political alignment and realignment, has been described as a form of political cover or protection against electoral loss in 2027.

Party members of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), have described the detection as an acknowledgement of Tinubu’s political dexterity and sterling performance as a president, while opposition members from the Peoples Democratic Party described it as a show of political cowardice borne out of fear of electoral loss.

On October 14, 2025, Peter Mbah, the Governor of Enugu State, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mbah, while giving reasons for his defection, cited the PDP’s failure to recognize the voices of Enugu people and the party’s neglect of the region’s interests despite its loyalty.

He expressed hope that joining the APC would strengthen Enugu’s voice at the national level and facilitate development.

However, two governors have dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

SHERIFF OBOREVWORI

He assumed office as the Governor of Delta State on May 29, 2023. He was born on June 19, 1963, in Osubi, Okpe Local Government Area. He holds a B.Sc. in political science from Ambrose Alli University. He attended Delta State University, where he obtained his M.Sc. in political science.

He was a member of the House of Assembly representing the Okpe Constituency under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He had previously served as the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly from 2017 to 2023. He defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in April 2025.

PETER MBAH

He assumed office as the Governor of Enugu State on May 29, 2023. He was born on March 17, 1972. He hails from Owo in the Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State. He attended Army Children’s School, Bori Camp, Port Harcourt, and Owode High School, Owode Egba, Ogun State.

Mbah earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of East London and a master’s degree in maritime and commercial law from Lagos State University.

He began his career with a law firm in Lagos, where he served as a National Youth Service Corps member. He founded Peter Mbah Investments Limited in 1992, a company providing services in the oil and gas sector. Mbah later became the chairman and CEO of Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd., which developed significant infrastructure in the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

He was appointed Chief of Staff to Governor Chimaroke Nnamani in 2003 and later served as Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development.

In 2022, he emerged as the Enugu State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and won the 2023 gubernatorial election.

He was sworn in as Governor of Enugu State on May 29, 2023. He defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on October 14, 2025.

DOUYE DIRI

He assumed office on 14th of February, 2020. He was born on June 4, 1959. His town, Sampou is located in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. He is a Christian and is married to two women: Gloria Ebibomo Diri, the First Lady of Bayelsa State, and Barr. Mrs. Patience Ama Zuofa Diri.

He began his education at Okoro Primary School in Sampou. He also attended Rev. Proctor Memorial Primary School in Kaima, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1977.

He proceeded to Government Secondary School in Odi, Bayelsa State, and later enrolled in the College of Education in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he earned a National Certificate in Education (NCE) in 1985. He furthered his education at the University of Port Harcourt, obtaining a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree in Political Science in 1990.

He was a classroom teacher in various government schools in Rivers State. He was appointed Executive Secretary of the Bayelsa State Centre for Youth Development in 2000. He later served as a member of the House of Representatives, representing the Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma constituency from 2015 to 2019.

In 2019, he was elected Senator representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, but his tenure was short-lived as he was nominated by the PDP as its candidate for the 2019 Bayelsa State gubernatorial election. He won the gubernatorial election and was sworn in as Governor of Bayelsa State on February 14, 2020.
