Hannibal Gaddafi, the youngest son of Muammar Gaddafi, Libya’s late leader who was detained in Lebanon, has been released.
He was released on Monday, November 10, after a Libyan delegation visited Beirut to discuss his release.
It was gathered that the Libyan delegation reportedly cleared a bail of $900,000 on behalf of Hannibal Gaddafi.
Recall that Hannibal was arrested in 2015 on suspicion of concealing information about the disappearance of Lebanese Shi’ite cleric Moussa al-Sadr.
Reports claimed that Moussa al-Sadr, a Shi’ite cleric, vanished during a trip to Libya in 1978, and Hannibal, the youngest son of Muammar Gaddafi, was fingered to have concealed information about the disappearance.
However, Hannibal Gaddafi, who was born in 1976, was barely two years old when the incident happened.
This provoked ‘deliberate’ conversations, prompting questions on the possible involvement of a 2-year-old baby in concealing critical information.
Prominent individuals and human rights organizations, among others, strongly condemned and widely criticized the detention of Hannibal Gaddafi, describing it as illegal, unlawful, and arbitrary.
