What started as a heated celebrity rivalry eventually ended inside a boxing ring, with Phyna emerging victorious over actress Nkechi Blessing.
The two entertainers faced each other on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Balmoral Promotions’ Chaos in the Ring event at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
While Phyna walked away with the victory and a ₦50 million prize, Nkechi Blessing was left to respond to the defeat. Away from the ring, another name became part of the story after former Big Brother Naija housemate Sheggz placed a ₦10 million bet on Nkechi to beat Phyna.
Here is how the fight unfolded, how both women reacted afterwards and what happened to Sheggz’s huge wager.
Phyna and Nkechi Blessing take their rivalry to the ring

The fight was part of the Chaos in the Ring event, which also featured celebrity bouts involving Carter Efe and Speed Darlington, alongside the professional main event between Ghana’s Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah and Godday “Zodsolo” Appah.
Ahead of the October 1 showdown, both Phyna and Nkechi had made it clear that they were taking the contest seriously.
At the official press conference on September 29, Nkechi warned Phyna that she was ready for the fight and claimed she was “three million per cent prepared.” Phyna, in response, promised to settle their differences in the ring.
The anticipation eventually gave way to the real contest on October 1.
How Phyna knocked out Nkechi Blessing

The fight was scheduled for four rounds, with both women trading punches before Phyna eventually found the decisive opening in the final round.
Phyna knocked Nkechi down in the fourth round, and the actress could not beat the referee’s count. The stoppage handed Phyna the victory and made her the winner of what was described as Nigeria’s first female celebrity boxing bout.
Speaking after the fight, Phyna explained that she had deliberately remained calm during the earlier rounds before stepping up her efforts.
The victory earned Phyna a ₦50 million prize and further pushed her interest in boxing beyond the celebrity bout.
She went on to reveal that she would like to pursue the sport professionally, suggesting that the fight could be the beginning of a new chapter for her.
Phyna celebrates a historic victory

For Phyna, the victory was about more than defeating Nkechi. In a post shared on October 2, she reflected on the significance of the win and linked it to another important date in her life: the anniversary of her Big Brother Naija victory.
She noted that years after winning BBN, she was celebrating another historic achievement by becoming the first female boxer to step into the Chaos in the Ring contest and win on same day.
She also thanked Balmoral Promotions and Bet9ja for the opportunity and described the victory as the beginning of something bigger. In Phyna’s words:
“October 2nd will forever be a special date in my life.
Today marks the anniversary of the day I won BBN, and now, years later, I’m celebrating another historic victory becoming the first female boxer to step into this ring and win this fight.
From reality TV to the boxing ring, I’ve always been willing to challenge myself, break barriers and prove that there is so much more to Phyna than what people see.
This one is for every woman who has ever been told she couldn’t. We can. We will. And we absolutely should….
October 2nd a date of victory, courage and new beginnings.…
BBN Winner. Boxer. Champion.
And this is only the beginning.”
But she was not finished with boxing yet. After defeating Nkechi, Phyna immediately named Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia as the person she wanted to face next.
“I came in, and I kept my cool and did the thing. Now I would like to fight Etinosa. I think it is time I teach her a lesson,” Phyna said after the bout.
Etinosa, who was watching from ringside, accepted the challenge.
“I have been advising you to carry the Edo name with pride. We do not run from any fight. I accept the challenge fully,” she responded.
Nkechi Blessing reacts to the defeat

While Phyna celebrated, Nkechi Blessing offered her own version of events after the loss. Rather than allowing the defeat to define her, she took to Phyna’s celebratory Instagram post to congratulate her.
Taking to her own page, the actress described herself as a champion despite the official result.
“Still a CHAMPION regardless of the result… even the blind knows who the winner is 👀 👩🦯👩🦯.”
Nkechi also revealed that she had trained for only two days before the contest. She added:
“Somebody shout NBS !!!!!!!!!!!!! That is if you really watch the fight oooo👩🦯👩🦯. Only Two days training ooooo..shout out to my coach I love you girl.”
The actress then appeared ready to return to her regular career, writing: “Now let’s go back to making movies cus I no be boxer.”
Her comments came after the fourth-round stoppage that handed Phyna the official victory.
Sheggz Puts ₦10m On Nkechi

Before the fight, former BBNaija housemate Sheggz added another layer to the story with a huge wager.
On October 1, hours before the bout, Sheggz shared a Bet9ja betting slip showing that he had staked ₦10 million on Nkechi Blessing to defeat Phyna.
The single bet reportedly carried a potential return of ₦21.1 million. Sheggz also tagged Nkechi and added “Let’s go” with heart emojis.
The wager was particularly notable because Sheggz is a Bet9ja ambassador. With the fight ending in a Phyna knockout, however, the bet did not go Sheggz’s way.
Sheggz had backed Nkechi to win, but Phyna’s fourth-round knockout meant the ₦10 million wager was lost. The potential ₦21.1 million return attached to the bet also disappeared with the result.
So far, Sheggz has not publicly reacted to losing the bet.
That leaves Phyna’s victory and Sheggz’s wager as two separate talking points from the same night: one ended with a ₦50 million prize for the winner, while the other ended with a ₦10 million loss for the celebrity bettor.
What the fight leaves behind
Phyna and Nkechi Blessing’s boxing match gave their weeks-long rivalry a definitive sporting outcome, even as Nkechi maintained that she remained a champion in her own right.
For Phyna, the victory has opened the door to a possible future in boxing, with Etinosa Idemudia already accepting her post-fight challenge.
For Nkechi, the next move appears to be a return to acting, judging by her decision to “go back to making movies.”
And for Sheggz, the story ends differently: he backed Nkechi with ₦10 million, but Phyna’s knockout ensured that the bet would not pay out.
For now, Phyna leaves the Ring as the winner, while the reactions to the bout, both inside and outside the ring continue to keep the fight in the spotlight.
