There is a point in every long career when experience becomes just as important as talent. For some artistes, it comes with a change in sound. For others, it is reflected in the way they approach their craft and the stories they choose to tell.

For 2Baba, a name that has remained familiar to Nigerian music lovers across different generations, the journey has been anything but ordinary. From his early days in a music group to building a successful solo career, he has seen the industry change in several ways.

Now, another chapter is taking shape, and its title has already got people talking.

2Baba Announces First Album In Six Years, ‘Oldest Young Man’

Nigerian music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has announced the release of his first studio album in six years.
Titled Oldest Young Man, the 16-track project is scheduled to arrive on November 27, 2026. It will be his first full-length studio album since Warriors, which was released in February 2020.

The singer made the announcement on November 3, 2026, through his social media pages, where he described the forthcoming project as a continuation of his musical legacy. He wrote:

“The legacy continues. OLDEST YOUNG MAN drops 27.11.26. Timeless music, no expiration date.”

However, the announcement did not come entirely out of the blue. 2Baba had been dropping hints about the project months before confirming its release date.

In August 2026, he shared a message that read: “I’ve lived it. I’ve seen it. I’m still here. My new album, OLDEST YOUNG MAN, is coming soon.”
The statement offered a glimpse into the thinking behind the project, with its emphasis on experience, survival and longevity.

On his 51st birthday, September 18, he also referred to himself as the “forever the oldest young man”, further drawing attention to the album’s title. While the full meaning behind the name has not been explained, it presents an interesting contrast between growing older and retaining the youthful energy that has kept an artiste connected to music over the years.

What To Expect From ‘Oldest Young Man’

2Baba

Although 2Baba has confirmed that Oldest Young Man will contain 16 tracks, there are still several details fans are waiting to discover. The singer has yet to officially release the complete tracklist or announce the other artistes who may feature on the project. Its full musical direction and production credits have also not been revealed.

However, fans have already had an opportunity to get an early taste of what he has been working on. On September 19, 2026, 2Baba hosted an album listening party in Victoria Island, Lagos, as part of activities marking his 51st birthday.

The private gathering brought together family members, friends and entertainment personalities, including his mother, Rose Idibia, his children, music executives Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye, as well as singers Wande Coal, Tony Tetuila, Spyro and former Plantashun Boiz member Faze.

One of the notable moments of the evening was a freestyle performance by 2Baba and Faze. Their appearance together brought back memories of their time in Plantashun Boiz, the group they formed alongside Blackface before pursuing individual careers.

The listening party was also significant because it gave invited guests an opportunity to hear material from the forthcoming album before its official release.

A day before the gathering, on September 18, 2Baba released Mental, featuring singer Fave. The song, produced by Dee Yasso, arrived on his 51st birthday and brought together two artistes from different generations of Nigerian music.

The collaboration also offers an example of how the veteran singer continues to work with younger voices in the industry. For now, Mental is one of the known releases connected to this new phase of his career, but fans will have to wait for the album’s full tracklist to know what other collaborations await them.

From Plantashun Boiz To Becoming 2Baba: His Musical Journey

Plantashun Boiz

Long before he became one of Nigeria’s recognised music veterans, 2Baba was a young musician trying to establish himself in the industry. Born Innocent Ujah Idibia, he began his musical journey in the late 1990s while studying at the Institute of Management and Technology in Enugu.

It was during this period that he met Blackface and Faze, and the three eventually formed Plantashun Boiz. The group became popular around the turn of the millennium, gaining attention with its blend of R&B, hip-hop and Nigerian pop music.

In 2000, Plantashun Boiz released its debut album, Body and Soul. The group followed it with another project, Sold Out, in 2003. Their music earned them a following, but the group eventually split in 2004, with its members going on to pursue individual careers.

For 2Baba, the separation marked the beginning of another important phase. In 2004, he released his debut solo album, Face 2 Face, under the name 2Face Idibia. The project featured songs such as African Queen, which became one of the biggest records of his career.

The song gained popularity beyond Nigeria and helped establish him as an artiste with an audience across Africa and internationally. It also featured on the soundtrack of the 2006 American romantic comedy Phat Girlz.

Following the success of his debut, he released Grass 2 Grace in 2006, further strengthening his position in the Nigerian music industry. He continued building his catalogue with The Unstoppable in 2009, its international edition in 2010, Away and Beyond in 2012, The Ascension in 2014 and Rewind, Select, Update in 2015.

By then, he had established himself as more than an artiste with a few successful records. His music had become part of the soundtrack of an entire generation.

In 2016, he officially moved away from the name 2Face Idibia and adopted 2Baba, a nickname that had already been associated with him for years.

His next studio album, Warriors, arrived in February 2020. The 13-track project featured collaborations with some of the biggest names in Nigerian music, including Burna Boy, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Olamide and Peruzzi. Songs such as Opo, featuring Wizkid, Amaka, featuring Peruzzi, and Oyi became part of the album’s catalogue.

Six years later, Oldest Young Man is set to become the next full-length addition to this musical journey.

Six Years After ‘Warriors’: What Has 2Baba Been Up To?

2Baba

Although 2Baba has not released a full-length studio album since Warriors, he has not been away from music. The period between 2020 and 2026 has seen him release singles, collaborate with other artistes and continue performing for audiences.

In October 2024, he released Kuku Google Am, produced by Duktor Sett. The following year, he continued putting out music, including Balling, Celebrate, Salary 4 Life, Only Me Refix and Ashewo. He also released the Rebirth EP.

His 2025 activities coincided with a major milestone in his career as he marked 25 years in the music industry. Having started out with Plantashun Boiz, he had spent more than two decades building a catalogue that connected with different generations of listeners. His performances also remained part of his activities.

In August 2026, he embarked on The Baba Experience, an eight-city tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland. The tour began in London on August 21 before moving to Manchester on August 22. Other stops included Sunderland on August 28, Birmingham on August 29 and Edinburgh on August 30.

The September leg continued in Reading on September 4, Derby on September 5 and Dublin on September 11. He also released Mental, featuring Fave, on September 18, adding another collaboration to his catalogue.

These releases and performances show that the six-year gap was not a period of musical inactivity. Rather, it was a period in which he continued to engage with music outside the release of a full-length album.

With Oldest Young Man, he is now preparing to bring several years of work together in one project.
