Fayemi sworn-in as Ekiti governor as Fayose ‘battle’ EFFC same day

Immediate past Minister of Mineral Resources, Kayode Fayemi, has just being inaugurated as the new governor of Ekiti state while the immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has arrived at the Abuja office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Kayode Fayemi has been sworn-in as the governor of Ekiti State. Dr. Fayemi, who won the July 14 governorship election held in the state on the platform of All Progressives Congress was sworn-in on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti.

Photos: Kayode Fayemi sworn in as governor of Ekiti stateHe defeated the then Deputy Governor of the state and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Professor Kolapo Olusola, and other candidates to emerge the winner of the election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared that Fayemi polled 197,459 votes, while, his closest rival, Olusola got 178,121 votes.

The 53-year-old governor is a native of Isan-Ekiti in Oye Local Government of Ekiti State. He was defeated by Mr Ayodele Fayose in 2014. This is his second term as the governor of the state.

FFK, Wike, supporters arrive EFCC office for FAYOSE

Scores of supporters have arrived at the Wuse 2 office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to support former Governor Ayodele Fayose.

Some of the persons included a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, activist, Deji Adeyanju, Fayose’s aides and others.

The ex-Ekiti State Governor, whose tenure expired midnight on Monday, said earlier in the day that he would visit the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday with his bedclothes and pillowcase.

Fayose’s immunity ends along with his tenure and he has been invited to the headquarters of the EFCC where he will answer to allegations that he received about N1.3bn from the Office of the National Security Adviser through the then Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.
