The Minister of youth and sports development, Sunday Dare has disclosed that the federal government has plans to create one million jobs for the youth.

This was disclosed by the sports minister on Friday at a youth technology, entrepreneurial and art exhibition organised by the federal ministry of youth and sports development in partnership with I Choose Life foundation, a non-governmental organisation.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the event was organised in commemoration of Nigeria’s 60th independence anniversary and to celebrate young persons who are blazing the trail in entrepreneurship, industry, arts, crafts and technology.

The event had as its theme, ‘My Nigerian Dream’.

Dare said the federal ministry of youth and sports development is collaborating with other ministries on the creation of jobs, which he said would be actualised before the end of October.

“The ministry of youth and sports development, ministries of women affairs, communication and digital economy, labour and employment, among others, are working on the plan,” he said.

“The work plan is ready and the budget has been approved. I do assure you that before the end this month, the programme would be rolled out at various levels. I want to urge all our youth to apply themselves to the programme.”

Chijoke Obioma, coordinator of I Choose Life foundation, said the event was organised to “celebrate young Nigerians who are telling their own story”.

He added that the foundation will continue to harness the potential of Nigerian youth through capacity building and mentorship.

The high point of the event was the unveiling of the newly drafted ‘Heroes’ series, which was presented by Sadique Abubakar, chief of air staff, to the family of Tolulope Arotile, the air force’s first female combatant helicopter pilot, who died in July.

The series was put together by the I Choose Life foundation team to celebrate the late pilot.

The event was attended by Pauline Tallen, minister of women affairs; Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture; Sadique Abubakar, chief of air staff who was represented by Oladayo Amao, chief of policy and plans, among others.
