The popular Eka Ika Oqua market (Marian Market) along Marian road is at the moment on fire as traders scamper for safety as well trying to Savage some of their wares in various affected shops inside the market.

This is the second time within the last two months that the livelihoods of traders in the fruit and Veggies line were also gutted.

It was gathered that the cause of the inferno which started at about 9:00 pm on Wednesday evening was yet unknown as at the time of filing this report.

The men from Fire Service were yet to respond even after one hour since the tragic incident occurred.

WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported how fire gutted one of the buildings in the palace of the Ooni of Ife and destroyed properties.

The Administrative Officer of Osun State Fire Service, Fatai Aremu confirmed the incident. He said, one of the rooms in the administrative building of the Ooni’s palace was razed with fire.

“Our personnel at Ile-Ife fire station was called to the incident at 1:20 pm and they responded swiftly to the call and were able to put off the fire. The fire was caused as a result of a power surge.

“Though the fire-affected that single room but the effect was severe as it blew off the roof of that room, it would have spread beyond that but due to prompt arrival of fire personnel from the state. Property affected are clothes, upholstery chairs and other home use equipment as the room belongs to one of the chiefs.”
