Amb. Victor Olufemi, National Coordinator of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Volunteers Group, has condemned the rejection of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sawonwoolu’s call for a “Peace Walk” by some celebrities in the country.
Olufemi, in a statement issued in Abuja by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Akin Makanjuola, described the rejection as insensitive to one of the ways to build relationships and win the trust of youths following the #EndSARS saga.
Sanwoolu revealed plans for a peace walk in December to commemorate the #EndSARS Movement and to bridge the gap between the government and the citizens on Tuesday.
He recalled how, in response to the development, some celebrities, including skit maker Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, Folarin Falana, and others, had rejected the peace walk.
He added that some young people in Lagos and other parts of the country had also condemned the celebrities’ stance.
“If the youth reject the peace walk, is it the war walk they prefer?” Olufemi wondered.
The APC Volunteers National Coordinator recalled British Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s famous statement shortly after World War II, “it is always better to jaw, jaw than to war, war.”
He urged the young people to put down their swords and embrace peace and dialogue as a means of conflict resolution.
In a related development, Olufemi praised President Muhammadu Buhari’s pragmatic leadership in keeping the country together during a critical period in its history.
He also pledged his loyalty and support to the All Progressives Congress National leadership led by Gov. Mai Mala Buni.
He promised to work closely with party leaders to move the APC forward and ensure the party’s victory in future elections.
