Chief Executive Officer, Nisa Medical Group, Abuja, Dr. Ibrahim Wada, has urged young doctors to contribute their quotas to the development of the medical profession in Nigeria.
Wada made the call at a talk show organized by the Nigerian Medical Association Young Doctor Forum (NMA-FCT YDF) on Thursday in Abuja.
He advised them to be patient as Nigeria still remains the best place to be.
Wada said that in spite of the challenges confronting the medical profession, they must remain in the country to contribute their quota to change the narrative.
“My advice for the young doctors, I know we are facing difficult times in the profession and many of you are thinking of what to do
“I have gone out and come back and served the country in different capacities medically.
“I can tell you that North, East, South, and West, the best home is still your country, your home is the best, and there can be opportunities to train abroad.
“As for the challenges the medical profession is facing, I see hope especially now that health insurance is being made to work.
“What has saved the Western world where we are running to is that everybody chips in to make things work through health insurance.
Dr. Bioku Muftau, the Deputy Head of Clinical Services, Research and Training, Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, advised the doctors to be patient with the situation of things with the medical profession.
He said that young doctors are the future leaders of the medical profession and urged them to live up to their responsibilities.
“We must continue to be one, we need to liaise and discuss with the government, especially on the challenges the profession is facing now, he said.
He urged the governments at all levels to improve the working conditions of the doctors, adding that there are more Nigerian doctors abroad.
Dr Charles Ugwuanyi, Chairman, NMA-FCT, reminded the young doctors that they are in the formative stage of their lives, adding that the experiences they gather now would shape their future.
He said that if they remained in the profession with passion and service to humanity, it would build them and guide them through their career.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the association also carried out medical and surgical outreaches at the Dutse Alhaji Comprehensive health centre.
The outreaches featured medical consultations, minor surgeries, giving out reading glasses, and breast cancer screening among others.
NAN also reports that both events were part of the activities to mark the 2022 NMA Physicians’ Week, an event celebrated annually to recognise the sacrificial works of Physicians and to give them prominence.
