On Sunday, the Ebonyi Police Command announced the arrest of a University Professor, Felix Anyaegbulam, for allegedly defiling a minor.
Anyaegbulam is a Professor of Geophysics at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI), in the State’s Ikwo local government area.
WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that the Professor had been sexually abusing his 13-year-old housekeeper from Ezza North local government area in Ebonyi.
DSP Loveth Odah, the state Police spokesperson, told journalists in Abakaliki via WhatsApp that the suspect is in police custody.
“The Commissioner of Police, Mr Aliyu Garba, has ordered a discreet investigation into the matter while we await the victim’s medical screening/report,” she said.
Mrs Faithvin Nwancho, the state Coordinator for Gender-Based Violence (GBV), who reported the incident to the police, condemned the rape.
Nwancho urged the police to pursue justice in the case, noting that the Professor had previously impregnated another adolescent, causing her to drop out of school.
“At the AI-FUNAI, this Professor has been having sex with a 13-year-old girl.” The girl stays with him, but every blessed day of her life, this man sexually violates her.
“He has an affair with her.” As luck would have it, we were informed about it, and the girl was rescued as a result. “A complaint was filed with the police, and he was arrested,” said the Coordinator.
