The All Progressives Congress (APC) Rebirth Group charged the party’s members across the federation on Monday in Abuja to respect its leadership and constituted authorities.
Alhaji Aliyu Audu, the group’s coordinator, issued the charge in a statement in response to a communiqué purportedly issued by a party youth group dissolving the Gov. Mai Mala Buni-led APC Caretaker and Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC).
Audu stated that the APC Rebirth Group would not support recklessness in any form by any group within the party.
“The APC Rebirth Group, also known as Concerned APC Stakeholders, has been drawn to a communiqué issued by a party youth group purportedly dissolving the Buni-led CECPC.”
“We wish to distance ourselves from this imprudent action and state unequivocally that we do not support it in any way.”
“We share some of the sentiments expressed by the youth group, particularly those concerning inclusion and the slow process leading to the party’s much-anticipated National Convention.”
“We, on the other hand, believe that open defiance of established authority is not the way to go.”
“The APC Rebirth Group believes that all party members must show respect and regard for offices and those who hold them,” he said.
Audu stated that all groups and individuals within the party had the absolute right to express their grievances and push for the necessary reforms, which the group had done on numerous occasions.
However, he stated that such actions must be in accordance with the party’s rules and regulations.
“We would not encourage any group or individual to assume powers that they do not have,” he said.
He reiterated the APC Rebirth Group’s stance on inclusion and the need to build a party that works for everyone.
Audu, on the other hand, urged all supporters of the APC to maintain decorum and follow the party’s rules.
He advised such people not to engage in anti-social behavior that would jeopardize the APC’s sanctity.
“The party has rules and procedures for changing leadership, and no matter how strongly we feel, all party members must explore the legitimate and stipulated party rules and not act outside of them.”
“We would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm our call that the Buni-led CECPC, in the larger interest of the party members, should endeavor to do the right thing as soon as possible,” he said.
Audu stated that this was necessary to eliminate unnecessary distractions.
