The Oniru of Iruland, Oba Omogbolahan Lawal, and some traditional rulers on Sunday prayed for peace and prosperity of Iru Land, Lagos State, and Nigeria in general. They offered prayers during the 7-day 2022  Ejiwa Elegba Festival, held at Iru Palace, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Speaking on the significance of the festival, Oba Lawal said that the situation in the country calls for prayers of all and sundry.

He added that the festival offered the sons and daughters of Iruland and other communities on the Island to witness and celebrate their ancestors’ culture, tradition, and knowledge.

Oniru said that there was the need for Nigerians, especially Lagos residents to continue to pray and work for the peace of the state and the nation to be prosperous.

He said that with prayers, all the challenges confronting the nation and indeed the citizens would be a thing of the past.

The traditional ruler noted that the week-long festival was a celebration of the rich African tradition that would not only promote tourism but also help to preserve the African heritage.

He, however, used the occasion to call on all the sons and daughters of the kingdom to join hands with him in taking Iruland to greater heights.

He added that through his development agenda titled, “LEGIT” ( Let’s Grow Iruland Together), the kingdom had witnessed tremendous progress in less than two years that he ascended the throne of his forebearers.

On his part, Oba Fatai Aromire, the Ojora of Ijora, commended Oba Lawal for the giant strides his kingdom was witnessing since he ascended the throne.

Aromire said the residents of Iru Kingdom were lucky to have Oba Lawal as their traditional ruler.

“As the custodian of our rich heritage, culture, and tradition, I congratulate sons, daughters, and residents of Iruland on Ejiwa Elegba Iru festival 2022. I wish them many more moments of celebration and unending victory,” he said.

A member of the royal family and a businesswoman, Mrs. Titilayo Adamson, urged sons and daughters of the community to remain united and continue to support the ruling head.

“I am happy to be part of this celebration. It is a festival of love, homecoming, and togetherness. I urge all indigenes of our great community to continue to support ourselves and our king. We can only grow when there’s love and peace,” she said.

Olalekan Matti, a lawyer,  urged youths of the Iru community to be focused and committed to the growth of the kingdom.

He charged the youths to shun all forms of vices, adding that the get rich quick syndrome was deceptive. He prayed for wisdom, sound health, and long life for the traditional ruler.
