Rotary Club empowers widows with machines, funds in Jos

The Rotary Club of Naraguta, Jos has empowered five young widows with grinding and milling machines to provide them with alternative livelihood to become self-reliant.

Reports have it that the gesture is part of activities to mark the investiture of Mrs Virginia Jang as the President of the club, on Saturday in Jos.

The club also provided takeoff grant to the widows to enable them to install the machines and carter for other logistics.

Jang said she understands the pains of young widows having been one at a youthful age, adding that the gesture would enable the beneficiaries to train their children.

She said the essence of rotary was to impact lives, stressing that the club under her leadership would execute life touching projects in the seven areas of focus.

The president said that before the empowerment, the club had executed viable project in the area of environmental development where it planted trees at St John’s RCM Primary School, Jos.

She said that in the area of maternal and child health, they club would equip two primary health centres with standard delivery beds and 500 birth kits.

According to Jang, a medical outreach will be organise to treat members of the public of various diseases, distribute wheel chairs to polio victims as well as eye glasses to persons with impaired vision and mosquito nets to pregnant women.

“We have proposed seven projects to be executed during this rotary year drawn from the seven areas of focus in rotary.

“I prepared myself for the task of leadership and made a resolve to commit my time, talent, and treasures to serving humanity through the Seven Avenues of Rotary.

“Of course I cannot do this alone, but together with my board of directors and we are going to apply the rotary motto of “Service Above Self”.

“We will continue to impact humanity through collaborative efforts with sponsors, partners and donations from friends, family, colleagues and associates,” she said.

The club Assistant Governor, Ms Theresa Eyetan urged members of the club to support the leadership to enable it to execute the projects outlined for the rotary year.

Our correspondent reports that the investiture also featured induction of new members, while the club presented awards to five dignitaries who have been its pillar of support.
