Anglican bishop urges faithful to draw closer to God

Christians have been urged to utilize the Advent season to re-examine their life in order to draw closer to God.

The charge was given on Sunday by the Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Right Rev. Samuel Ezeofor, at St. Paul’s Parish Amesi in Anambra’s Aguata Local Government Area.

Ezeofor urged the faithful to embrace God even more in a sermon of Confirmation and Admission Service into the Girls Guild, Women’s Guild, and Anglican Men’s Fellowship.

He reminded the parishioners that being a beneficiary of God’s blessings was a great privilege, and he urged Christ’s followers to live a good life as people accountable to God.

He stated that Christians should always give true testimony about Jesus Christ, no matter where they lived, and promote the Anglican Communion’s articles.

Ezeofor urged all parishes under the Amaiyi Archdeaconry to properly prepare themselves so that they could benefit from God’s abundant blessings.

He warned the faithful not to claim what they were not and not to steal the glory that belonged to someone else.

Venerable Ifeanyi Ogbueli, Archdeacon of Amaiyi Archdeaconry, commended the faithful who received the Sacrament of Confirmation and those admitted into various groups in a remark.

He stated that the 52 people who received the Sacrament of Confirmation would be followed up on to ensure that their faith in the communion was maintained.

Rev. Joseph Uwakwe, Vicar of St. Paul’s Church Amesi, also thanked the Ezeofor for his visit and assured him that he would continue to work in the house of God to promote Jesus Christ’s teachings.

Uwakwe admonished the 17 girls admitted to the Girls Guild and the 45 women admitted to the Women’s Guild to adhere to all of the teachings given to them.

He stated that it was expected of them to be good examples of Christ followers in their homes and workplaces.

Uwakwe charged the 23 men inducted into the Anglican Men’s Fellowship at the service to be soldiers of Christ as well as family pillars, as God desired.

“Fathers are the heads of their homes, and they have a mandate from God to build a Christian household where decent children are reared for the Kingdom of God and society,” he stated.
