No fewer than 150 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) family in Sokoto State were on Saturday provided with modern accommodations donated by Qatar Charity Foundation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the project is one among many interventions by Qatar Charity Foundation in Sokoto, which has continued to support the needy in the state.
The foundation’s interventions in collaboration with the Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Commission, has impacted positively on the life of thousands of families in the state.
Inaugurating the 150 Rahama Housing Complex for IDPs in Gandi, Rabah Local Government Area, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, appreciated the donors for the gesture.
“We will continue to appreciate Qatar Charity for their several interventions to ease the hardship of our people in Sokoto and Nigeria in general.
“This rare gesture will immensely add a lot of value to well being of our people who are destined to be effected by the security challenges bedeviling their communities,” he said.
Abubakar further urged the beneficiaries to continue to pray for the donors and leaders to succeed in their various obligations.
Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, described the occasion as one of the best achievements recorded by his administration.
Tambuwal, represented by his Deputy Alhaji Munir Dan’iya, thanked Qatar Charity Foundation for the support towards alleviating the hardship of the society.
“The state government will continue to cherish your intervention on our people and ensure proper utilisation of all projects executed across the state,” he said.
The governor reassured of the government’s commitment to address security challenges in the effected areas.
The Chief Executive Officer, Qatar Charity Mr Yousuf Al-Kuwari, appreciated the state government, Sultanate council, security agencies and the people of Sokoto for ensuring an enabling environment for the project.
Al-Kuwari, represented by Mr Hamdi Abdou, Country Director Qatar Charity, said the project was initiated to ease the hardship experienced by the IDPs.
He assured of more interventions on scholarship, health, skills training and empowerment by the foundation to the IDPs, orphans and physically challenged persons.
Earlier Malam Muhammad Maidoki, the state Chairman, Zakkat and Endowment Commission, said Qatar Charity interventions had drastically fulfilled a lot of the commission’s dreams.
“The Commission is facing a challenge of inadequate funding to address the need of the vulnerable whose influx to the commission is increasing day by day.
“However, partnership with organisations such as the Qatar Charity, thousands of orphans and other vulnerable in Sokoto are getting relief and their life is getting better day by day,” he said.
NAN reports that other projects inaugurated earlier included Sultan Muhammad Maccido Multi Purpose Waqf Centre and Kalambaina Juma’at Mosque in the metropolis.
Other activities are the foundation laying ceremony of new Mosque at Faculty of Agriculture, Usmanu Danfodio University and distribution of livelihood support materials and equipment to the needy.
