Ugwumba Youth Movement (UYM) Worldwide, a political group, has vowed to support credible candidates who have the interest of Nigerian masses at heart ahead of the 2023 general election.
The group made the resolve in a communique signed by its Coordinator-General, Mr Jeff Nwaoha, Secretary-General, Chidozie Enwuziem and seven other representatives from each geo-political zone and the diaspora.
The communique was issued at the end of its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Wednesday in Owerri.
The group which boasts of having 10 million membership in Nigeria and diaspora, said it would opt for candidates who would ensure peace, unity, love, progress, justice, equity, fairness and democratic virtues.
The communique reads in part: “We are still at the consultation stage and since the election period is still far, we would make use of the ample time to weigh the various options available.
“We passionately pray for peace, unity and progress in our dear country and states in particular.
“We call for partnership between the Government and the people for the progress and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
“Our objective is to promote and support responsive and responsible leadership, rule of law, accountability and inclusiveness in governance, civic participation, free and fair electoral process, and peaceful democratic transition of power,” it noted.
The group further stated that it was open for affiliation with other national and international youth bodies whose aim was geared towards emancipation of the youth.
It urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deliver on its mandate by ensuring free and credible elections next year.
“We wish to encourage Nigerians, especially fellow youths to go get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) and join the impending ballot revolution because our votes must surely count this time,” it added.
